Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan

Born in 1945 in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan learnt the Sarod from his father Ustaad Hafiz Ali Khan, of the Senia Gharana. He began performing in public while still in his teens and established himself as an instrumentalist of exceptional capability. Among the foremost Sarod players today, he has a style that is conventional in technique but highly individual in spirit. He has introduced many innovations in classical music alongwith composed vocal and orchestral music for children. He has many gramophone records and cassettes to his name, some specially for the popularisation of classical music among children.

Among other honours, he has received the UNESCO Award in 1970, the Padma Shri(1975), and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Hindustani instrumental music in 1989.
