Smt. Kishori Amonkar

Born in 1931 in Mumbai, Smt. Kishori Amonkar is a leading exponent of Khayal and semi classical music, including devotional songs. Trained by her mother Mogubai Kurdikar in the style of gharana, she has assimilated the best in other gharanas as well. She has also conducted research on Indian music and held many seminars and workshops on the subject. Smt. Kishori Amonkar has performed widely in the country as well as abroad including the Festivals of India in U.S.A. and France.

She recieved the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Hindustani vocal music in 1985 and the Padma Bhushan in 1987.
