Gangubai Hangal, the disciple of Sawaii Gandharva Rambhau Kundgolkar was born in 1913 in a family of musicians. Her mother Ambabai initiated her into music. She is one of the foremost exponents of the Kirana Gharana amongst the front-ranking vocalists of Hindustani Classical Music. Gangubai Hangal has enriched Indian music by her unique talents and her resonant and flexible voice.Other artistes...She has been the recipient of many laurels such as the Mysore State Akademi Award(1962), the Padma Bhushan(1971), the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award(1973) and an Honorary Doctorate of Karnataka University(1976).
